upvc window locks

Postby INMANATOR » 3 Feb 2005 11:40

hi got called out today to open some upvc window locks. when i got there i noticed the locks had been drilled by previous tennants and now the windows would not open at all. on some windows the catches on the bottom had rusted. i explained im not a window guy just do locks and they would be better off calling them for advice. does anyone know how to get these open once they have seized? im not going to try just curious.

You need a drill, several bits (depending on screws or rivets) and a great big flat head screw driver.

That will get them open. After that, you have to replace the bloody things.

Also recomend that the NEW tenents do NOT drill these ones.

Oh, and by the way, for any of our American cousins who may not know what is being discussed here, I have included an excellent link.

The Avon and Somerset Constabulary have an absolutely incredible web site. As a matter of fact, it is perhaps one of the best made, and well laid out police web sites I have seen in a long time.

The link I am providing takes you directly to their "crime prevention and home security" section. When you reach there, select "securing your home". Take the time to read as much of this page as you can. I think for many people it will b an eye opener, and give you things to think about that you may not have in the past.
