Combos on the job

Postby Exodus5000 » 3 Feb 2005 20:58

Out of curiosity, if you were out on a job and you found that one lock you had to open was a combination lock, but you couldn't derive the combination, it had no keyway, and you couldn't shim it, what other options would you have besides Mr. McBolt-Cutters?

check your code software to see if it might possibly have the combo for that lock in a specific series?

Any of the less than 20$ dial combination locks... just bolt cutters, they wont resist really at all. Something like the S&G 8088, sure you could use bolt cutters, but thats really an insult to the lock. Id drill it, and repair it.

Combination lock means a lock with 1 wheel (safe-style) or one with dials?

Recently I saw a special feeler tool for dials and I always wanted to ask for more information about it.
It's the last one on this page, Nr 30650, Abtastmesser "Mini"

Ok, it's pretty obvious how it works: You put the tool next to the dials and turn them, but can anybody tell more about it?

Pretty sure that's it. Not much else to it. Probably won't work on Master combo type locks, as it wouldn't fit in, but it would work on most dial type locks.

About that weatherbee 457 pick varjeal, is there a recommended safe distance that comes with it, and do you use the solid bronze elephant stopper load?

Lets not forget the, often overlooked, cutting of the hasp. Don't forget that folks still put $200 locks on the $1.97 hasp from the Home De(s)pot. I actually have a modified set of hoof trimmers to use on the tight fitting staples.
