Vintage locks

Postby Horsty32 » 3 Dec 2003 0:28

Are there any antique or vintage lock enthusiasts out there?

I am interested in knowing more about the type of padlocks that have just a narrow opening for a flat key that has the teeth on the tip.

Old Locks...

Postby Uante » 6 Dec 2003 2:12

Yeah I like old locks...I've kinda been having a growing interest in Combination locks, I have a few from the early 1920's. One a Junkunc Bros, lock I bought without a combination and was able to pick it just by feel...pretty cool, but was lucky it was only a two digit combo. How about yourself...what do you collect?

Im doing some research on vintage locks for a lockpicking game. Im looking for blueprints or sketches of late 19th century brittish locks, and manuals how to pick them.

Please help!

Lock Diagrams

Postby Uante » 21 Dec 2003 1:26

I was looking at locks on the US patent site and found some diagrams for some old combination locks. I just tried the numbers I had from before and the site was down...
But here's a link to the search http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/srchnum.htm
Maybe you might have better luck with it
Try these numbers or your own it you have some.
Sorry no English items but you might find this interesting.

Vintage locks

Postby mandrake » 19 Feb 2005 12:27

The locks that you are refering to are called Push key Padlocks that have a key with the cuts on the tip of the key. Or otherwise known as Pancake styled padlocks. These styled padlocks are from the 1800 on thru the Civil war,I thinkAt least up untill about the 1870,maybe longer.they are lever locks. Asthe key is pushed into the lockit spreads the levers apart to open. These locks can be difficult to pick. I have about 4 in my collection of about 50 vintage padlocks.I also collect Handcuffs and legirons, as well as manyAntique keys. I hope i have been of some help.
