Bathroom Door

Postby roguestorm » 5 Feb 2005 1:59

I have a problem with a very old bathroom door. The lock is activated from the inside by pressing a button on the side of the nob. There is a hole on the outside of the door in the same position. The button inside the hole was smooth with no groove in it. There are dents around the hole suggesting that the door has been forced in the past. When we tried pressing the button, it would not move. We sprayed some WD40 on the button and still it would not give. Finally we resorted to hammering a screwdriver on the button in an attempt to make it give. Now the button on the inside is heavily dented.

If anyone has any ideas about how this door may be opened or we could possibly break off the knob, please help.

At this point, think of ways to get in other than turning the knob. You will more than likely need to replace it anyhow (good news, privacy locks are relatively inexpensive).
Hint, think about where and how the latch works, and you will figure it out.

try using a slidecard, it is a thin piece of flexible hard plastic that you slip through the bolt of the door and either push it away from you or slide it towards you, www.totse.com has some info, just search around the site
