Having recently completed a number of courses, I'm now just about ready to start trading as a Mobile Locksmith though I'm really concerned about Identifying Locks for picking / drilling ( when essential )
Can anyone advise me if I can obtain a Lock ID kit with the lock types/colours/drill points etc etc ?
I'm bound to be called to a lockout very soon and don't want to get stuck straight away !
Can anyone help !!!
Thanks
Malc

Contact 24-7 for their lock id cd but i would question your training if lock id wasnt covered in the courses. You dont have to drill locks as most can be picked, just a thought.

Hi toomush,
One of the courses I did was the 24-7 Locksmith Course ( 2 day Picking) I did get a CD but it only has a handful of locks to ID with drill points etc.
Are there anymore Lock ID packages out there that can be bought ? Incidentally, when you drill ( assuming you do/have to at times ) where/how do you know where to drill ??
Thanks

Contact Pinky, presumably he was teaching on your course with Ken? I don't know how long ago you did the course but a new CD was brought out a few weeks ago. It's very good and has great photo's in abundance, well worth investing in.
You can also contact Ken for a 2mm template kit that he sells, which has the points, to drill the case only and manipulate the levers for most locks, thus not damaging the lock internals...

you drill for a view of the gate. the cd has all uk lock drill points on and all pics of relevent uk locks.
the bs picks are still the way forward, drilling is last resort for faulty damaged locks only.
malc the cd you recieved is a basic course cd and not the full lock id and drill point cd.

Pinky,
I haven't checked out the drill points from the ID CD, but what are these drill points going for? Presumably the measurements aren't the same as the 2mm template? Are they still for drilling the case only?

the drill points are for an 8mm bit ( kens favourite) if you want to drill 6mm you add 1mm to the across or back measurement , if drilling 4mm add 2mm to across or back measurement.
you are drilling to see the lever gates and corner of stump, you just line gates to stump and open, no internal damage and key still works if correctly drilled.
im glad you havnt used the drill points yet evo, suggests you are using it to id and then using your bs picks or curtain pick to pick them, thats the way forward, certainly not drilling.
