When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I'm so excited. My 8-piece set of SouthOrd picks arrived last night. I've been using paper clips and makeshift tension wrenches for years. Its like learning how to pick all over again, now that I have real tools. I promptly set to work on my front door, my friend's door (with them home) and anything I could find. This morning I bought a couple of kwikset cylinders at walmart, reduced one of them to 4 pins, and reduced the lock I took off the Sisco safe I mentioned in another post to 3 pins, so I have some cylinders to practice on.

And you can also use the proper tools to make your own homemades better.
If you need any help on making pick and would like some help there are plenty of posts about it and i could help you if you needed any. (thats if you havent already learnt to make your own)
Goodluck

mmmmm... store bought picks... tasty
but anyway, yeah their so much better then homemade ones (in my opinion anyway) i just got 1 hpc snake rake and it is really good (well i got it from skold anyway, not having a credit card makes it hard to get some... but thats really off topic)
If it doesn't seem to make sence, take a minuite to look at who said it... do you still want to know?

Yeah i agree the thing is with homemade picks is that sometimes they dont turn out what they are supposed to look like and when you buy them you dont have that problem

yes well.. when you buy them if they arnt what they said it is, the surplier is at fult n have to send off new ones, and that just cost them more, execpt in my case, the fact that i know skold i had allready seen what i was getting off him( but still mmm store bought picks, tasty... unlike my streetsweeper bristle tention wrench... mmm random street c**p)

glad you got some picks your happy with. Paper clips can be so hard to pick with in the beginning
I do have to add that homemade picks are much better IMHO because you can make the exact ones that you want. you dont like the handle, change it! you want to try a new design, go for it! Also, with the practice you can start making picks out of anything! and there is nothing like picking a lock with something that you made yourself anyway, just had to add my 3 cents, but down the road you may want to give it a try, its fun and good for you!
until then ; Happy Picking !

It's all personal prefrance, and i find my home made picks break quicker(well some of them anyway, proberly poorly made though.)
I broke my last homemade rake... it was my best pick, it made me cry inside, but now i got my HPC and another that I made that is really good also.

yeah, isn't it fun?
I just had a couple filed street sweeper picks and got a lovely southord 11 set. Well, not that I pick locks as anything other than a hobby, but man, some of my friends in New York were very suprised as to how little security their Kwikset locks gave them.
