Wiper blades, what are they good for ?

Hi all.
I just changed my wiper blades today!

I have extracted four, long stainless steel strips.
Not very wide, about 4 mils/ 1/16 inch wide or so give or take !

Pretty much looks like that they would make nice tension tools, but picks?

Dunno, what have you done with your wiper blades?

Apart from spare "dip sticks" :-)

They make amazing tension tools, very easy to make. I made a few just using pliers and bending them. Down side is their very springy, and can be hard to control the exact amount of tension. I also use the ends wiht the notches and grind them down to make excellent hook picks. Their small, very strong, and springy, so more chance of accidently setting a pin.

Yeah i could see how they would work as tension tools, but there is no "notched" end on these , just plains straight.

If i ground on these there would be nothin left :-)

there is a variety of wiper stiffeners, some are wider than others, you could ask the mechanic if he has a barrel of scrap parts somewhere and look to see what other types he has.

If you are really ambitious you can also go to "U Pull It and Save" style junkyards. Lots of items which are good for picks and tension wrenches are pretty much useless to everybody else. You can pick up all the spring steel you ever want for practically free.

Wow, those are some clean looking picks. And the pick shafts are nice and slim, and don't look like they're going to snap easily.

if you're gonna be at a junk yard, you could stock up on locks while you're there too, you can probably lay your hands on a ton of locks from doors, boots and ignitions of cars, all dirt cheap, it can be worth looking around well too, you never know what you may find, you have to think on your feet when making picks and tension tools!
