Yeah, a little. But pathological liars tell the truth sometimes, too; the point is whether or not you can trust the material, to which the answer is "no," unless you know enough already to know whether it's valid, in which case you don't need to be reading the thing.

Seems to me that spyder is both easily impressed and deficent in his ability to percieve reality. The Barrett M82-A1 is an incredibly heavy weapon that is barely "man portable." It's cost is also highly prohibitive. Reccomending it's use for any sort of entry is outright ignorant. As for thermite, it's dangerous, difficult to employ without the proper training, and why wouldn't one use a pair of boltcutters? Everybody is eager to sing the praises of thermite, but they don't realize it can literally blind you, it is about as hazardous as looking into an arc welder. It also leaves a great deal of smoke and slag behind. Finally, on an object as small as a lock it may not melt it, it may drip off an fizzle on the ground. I've said it before and I'll say it again, God! idiot!

Maybe in some dumb way, it's better that people are captivated with thermite for destroying locks, rather than, say, nitroglycerin?

i havnt read the cookbook since like 6th grade(6 years ago) to my knowledge most of the stuff is pure crap but sounds really cool when your in 6th grade.
I really enjoyed the getting high off of peanut skins one, people still believe that today. The cookbook only does a good job of impressing 12year olds who usually don't even have the transportation or equipment to do half the stuff(good thing too, otherwise i'd probably be missing a finger)

You know, Thermite will go through most anything. It will be able to eat through the lock, the door, the ground your standing on, the dog laying down in your basement, the basement flooring and finally come to settle into the cement or if that fails into the dirt. But that takes some concentrated chemicals to make it well. But on to the bashing of the locks! Have you seen the sledge hammers the solders in Iraq use to bust up the enemys guns? 20 - 30lbs with a 4 - 5 foot handle. That will make short work of your lock, your door and most of the frame. Why spend all that money on stuff to freeze a lock when you will just run out and have to go buy more and more and more. You could spend $30 Bucks for that hammer and never have to buy another. Of course, cause I'm only a beginner I have to keep in mind other alternatives to picking, is the back door unlocked and the person that called you is just not that birght? Hey, a window might be open, or why pay for a new lock, someone to install it and the money lost from the old lock when you could just break a window. I dunno, just keep your options open.

Thermite is not that powerful, unless you had high quality thermite pouring down on an exact spot constantly until you finally burned through that much stuff... It's not a laser.

Sorry, I guess I should mention, I am a chemistry major so I didn't just read this stuff about the thermite I actually learned the chemical properties and spent some time on this subject. My prof. was really an amazing person. Well he did some tests for us with thermite and believe me, it WILL eat through steel. I watched it do this. I also know that the stuff you buy over the net isn't exactly the most potent stuff you can buy. A little bit to much of this, a little to less of that. Anywho, I also own the M82A1. Do NOT use this to open the lock. It WILL put the bullet through the lock and through the house and probably through the next 5 or 6 houses if it doesn't hit anything to hard. It can put a bullet through and inch of stainless steel from 2000 yards. It was designed to take out sophistocated machinery, helicopters, radar towers, light armoured vehicles, and mostly any person a mile and a half away. Anywho, I was also about to go into the army and really go into this stuff. My MOS was small arms and ammunition repair. So I know some of this stuff. Anywhoooo... back to my locks.

Simple misunderstanding. Any sensible amount to be used for melting through a lock isn't going to melt through several feet of ground.
One thing though: why does a chem major have an M28A1? What kind of pigeons do you have in Utah?

I was exaggerating sorry, my bad.
We have the biggest d*** pigeons you've ever seen!
Like I said I was about to go into the army and got really into the whole weapons thing, so I went and bought some guns. It really is a fun gun. It's only about 45lbs and shoots like a 12 gauge shotgun. (thats what it said on the site and I think it has a different feel than a shot gun but the actuall kick really isn't to bad.) Anywhooo. But I still think the best way if you want to break a lock open is the BIG hammer idea

By concentrated I mean less impurities. You can go out and buy gold, but tell me this why is one ring $200 and another is $2000? One is less pure than the others. If you have a pure substance, hey good for you but the s*** you get from the net is just that.
Any other brain busters? -Jay

Let's see, how about the back road people that sell illegaly. Company's like this need some sort of verification to sell of dangerous materials. Hope on over there and order yourself a nice 4L bottle of nitrogen. See what happens.
