I dont think they would do that. It's more than likely their logo. Besides, the safe dosen't look old enough to be operating off a bit or lever tumbler key.

You never know, it may have been picked up at a junk sale, who knows.

Anyways, just a suggecstion, however thinking about it, im sure that if it was the key then this thread would not exist.

:D The makers name is written on that plate on the front of the safe :D
The model name is possibly on there too.

Stratford safes had either a well made seven lever lock, single bitted with a pin key or they had Kromer Novum double bitted pipe key lock.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've just had a quick google and it looks like a Stratford Stronghold.
Stratford were held in great esteem in their day and manufactured many quality safes, of which the Stronghold range was one. Offering between £3,000 and £5,000 cash cover, this range is well suited to shops and small pubs/clubs.

I hope its the single bitted lock rather than the Kromer Novum. If its the latter I'll have to buy/make a pick to open it. I bought it off ebay for £1 without keys (not been able to contact seller for more info), to practise on, could be full of gold bullion :D

Cheers Chunk

The stainless hinge trim makes me think it is a Sterling Plus.
Should have one live and two or three dead AED with glass plate and the Kromer 9 lever flanged lock. Bl**dy hard doors to drill freehand. You got a great deal, this would be 10K to 20K cash rating in a domestic location.

Brand new you'd be pushed to buy a safe of this size and quality for less than £800 plus del plus VAT.

Pain to make keys by hand and the blanks are about £6 each so you don't want to trash any. Replacement Kromer lever pack and two keys £128 plus VAT retail. Sometimes more cost effective to do a conversion.

you can buy the 2 different kromar 2 in 1 picks from rb locktools, or you can buy one with a clicker to know which lever you are working on from safe ventures, but its a pig to pick for you first few, al is the guy to ask for tips on this one.

Tom wrote a good article on picking these in his "Understanding Safes "book not for this section though.
I think you can buy a tool that helps when rekeying these now?
