When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Problem for making picks

Postby Geek142 » 14 Feb 2005 6:55

Hey everyone (this post intended for noobs first pick making)

If you are planning on making a pick were the shaft (not sure about the proper name)That comes out the middle, when you are grinding it down with a grinder because it gets warm sometimes if you are using a coarse wheel on your grinder can catch onto the pick and will warp it.

To avoid this, when you are getting close to finishing your blank which is a pick that doesnt have a tip yet (see pyros movie) around the shaft dont push it with force but still press on it abit so there is a less chance of it catching on and bending the shaft.

I hope that helps some Noob like me out there because i have had this problem many times

Another grinder tip for you..... when working on something like a pick, do not press into the wheel. Let the wheel do the cutting, and be sure to quench the work piece often.

Its also good idea to make snake tips useing hand files, don try it on the grinder, although it may be quicker and less effort, you can make a much better snake by hand.
If it doesn't seem to make sence, take a minuite to look at who said it... do you still want to know?
