Lock Pick Case Making

I used a piece of suede leather I found at WalMart - $4.95 for an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. I used a heavy duty snap kit that came with some punches to brad them to the material (Prym Sewing brand#14008) to keep them from falling out. I cut the leather to size then glued the pieces together with Duco Cement which is similar to contact cement but comes in a 1 oz tube. I put a bead of glue on the edge of both of the pieces and spread it flat with my finger then let it dry about 5 mins. Then put a second bead on one of the pieces, put them together and clamp them between a couple pieces of wood. Let dry about 1 hour before you use it. The snaps are really optional but you could actually use velcro and have a better looking case I think...

I have to get a hold of some leather....

At the moment i just use denim its pretty strong and easy to stitch through but it frays and looks horrible so you use a zigzag stitch to stop that

bembel's set looks like it would make a dull 'thunk' if dropped on the customs table. Makes me recall an episode of Martha Stewart's Living where the show was devoted to grommets and snaps.......wonder how life behind bars is?

Anyway, here's an easy test to see if your case really works. Hold it upside down and shake it side to side. I spent time on a snapless leather case and it failed the test as picks leaked out the sides because the walls weren't high enough.

I just tried that but the only things that came out was the tension wrench.....

Nothing seems to come out of my case even if i throw it at the wall..speaking of which, im now down 2 computer picks because of that test:(

My case is made tighter than the leather ones, so the tools don't move around.

I'm thinking of making one that has stretch fabric so the picks have thier own pockets. It will be a roll up type.

stich elastic on in x inch incrments, it hold the picks in nicely. I have pics posted somehwere on here.

Hey everyone i have just finished my new case!...

I made it out of a old leather thing(wouldnt have a clue what it is)



When i get a hold of a digital camera again i will show you the finished product.

i havent had a chance to make this yet, my sewing skills have always been non-existent and i havent yet made my picks, but anyway, i was looking at my glasses case earlier and figured i must be able to make a case from it, its like a nice suede sort of material on the outside and this weird sort of really soft polyester looking type stuff on the inside.

anyway i was looking at it and as its already a pouch, it may make quite a good case if you simply cut a few holes in the back of it and made a few stiches to keep things in and added a way to hold the top down closed over it, like a press-stud.

(please excuse the crude picture, i hate paint...)



So, to explain the pic, the black area being the pouch, the holes are cut into the first layer only (so you cannot see straight through!!). the top is then cut off as this has a sort of plastic "bit" in it which closes to stop glasses falling out, the top is then all just stiched together. stiches can be added in the small piece of fabric left between the two holes to create individual pockets for each pick if desired. the press-stud is then added and the top folded down to make closed pouch.

this is an attempt at showin sort of how it may look.

another idea may be to just totally rip it apart and use the material from it!

sticking with the theme, you can get glasses cases that are hard and open long-ways, these could be a good case for picks and if you just get a couple of pieces of clothes with loads of holes in for your picks then roll it up, you could put it inside the type of case that opens at one end.

I dont need to really make any cases at the moment as i have 2 cool ones but i still make them sometimes to get practice..

hi i'm torn between making a roll-up case or a zip-up case could anyone tell which one would be best

Also could anyone give me some sites about different sewing/stitching techniques (websites which have some good diagrams)
