Lockpincking and Safe cracking knowledge

Postby Martin Ng » 21 Feb 2005 17:23

1) I am trying on a 6pin Tubular Practice Lock, I am sure I am able to pick some pins, but I do not feel the wrench is turning at all.
But when I release my wrench, I can hear the pins dropping.
Anything I miss?

2) Do you know of anywhere I can have more information on Safe cracking?

3) Have you seen those keys with pores, I think it is computerized, any idea where can I get information on such picking technique for such locks

Hi Martin.

1. If you haven't yet, read the FAQ section of this is, and download the MIT Guide to lockpicking (google for it). This will likely answer your questions regarding picking.

2. As far as safes go, safe bypass technique is not typically talked about in the public forums here. Matt Blaze has a document called "Safecracking for the Computer Scientist" that is quite informative. It can be found at http://www.crypto.com

3. If I'm not mistaken you are referring to "dimple locks". There is less information available freely, though there have been a number of threads on this site referencing them. Use the search feature of the website. Also, you might try watching the H2K and H2K2 videos (again, search for them). One of the videos demonstrates a bypass technique for them.

Hope this helps, happy picking!

Just for fun many years ago i worked for a short time in an Indian Restraunt!
The cheff always said "slowly slowly no quickly quickly" :-)

Id say your holding the tension wrench to hard , forget dimple locks!

As for the safes, slowly slowly no quickly quickly :-)

Take your time , get a handle on the pin and tumbler , then move on.

It's a fun thing to do , but take your time !

Good luck :-)

You know, I have no practical experience in safe lock manipulation, but I have read Matt Blaze's paper. According to Mr. Blaze, lock manipulation on Group 2 locks is an easier skill to acqire than is picking pin tumbler locks.
Interesting...no?

Dimple Locks

Postby dry132 » 27 Feb 2005 14:18

Dimple locks can be picked using a special key blank and some aluminum tape. There's a good part in the h2k2 video that demonstrates this. Not easy for the layman, however, as you either need a special cut blank for each lock or the means to cut the blank.

As for the tubular use a bick pen, or a kensington paper key. The paper key is shown on the eurofoo video.
The dimple lock can be compromised with either foil tape, a bump key, or by picking. You will probably need a slim line short hook if picking is your method.
http://toool.nl should have a paper on bump keys, and 3 informative videos, as well as other interesting papers/videos/info
