We all have bad days, if you insist on using hair pins as lock picks, thes bad picking days will keep on happening..

Do you have a bench grinder or dremel?

If so visit the manual forums and take a look at some of the picks and templates ad try an recreate them on your grinder of choice.

Master #3's are generally good to start on, but they are an easy lock to pick, the only problem (which deters the picking slightly) is that the housing in the padlock moves around alot, if you want to continue using a hair pin (for the time being) i suggest making the tips into rake shapes and hook shapes.

If you see that all of the pins are up, you have probably got some stuck or not pushed up far enough (.1000 of a mm of the driver pin is enough to keep the driver pin in the cylinder)

Keep on trying, and goodluck

You do not want them to go up when they are stuck, you will have to lessen the tension or reset the pins.

That happebned to me also. Let go of the tension wrench and listen to see if the pins click. If they dont, reverse the torque direction and rake the pins untill they all set. then proceeed back to picking.

Masterlocks in genral are really easy to pick (they just look hard), if you know how. Obviously you got the tention thing(you seem to know that now though) witch masterlocks you genrally need less tention like you where picking mushroom pins or something of the sort. Also get a snake, and scrub it lightly 2-3 times and it should open. I had a masterlock 220 that would open in a few seconds like that.
If it doesn't seem to make sence, take a minuite to look at who said it... do you still want to know?

ebay grinders

Postby winston84 » 25 Feb 2005 13:27

you said you were planning on getting a grinder or dremmel when you get the cash, I recently ordered a grinder off ebay for 9.99, plus 17.95 shipping, from an ebay store called EDM Wholesalers. It came within a week. Hope this wasn't too late of a reply.

I hunted down that supplier -- they're here http://stores.ebay.com/EDM-Wholesalers

I'm having trouble believing some of those prices. Power tools for a few bucks?

How was the grinder, winston?

if your looking for a set of picks, u can buy them online, and have them shipped to you. i dont even think i know of a "store" that will sell them to nonlisenced people.

Pick purchasing has been discussed a number of times here. Bottom line is that the only "brick and mortar" stores you'll likely find pick sets are "Spy Shop" type places and you can buy them there, but you will get raked over the coals.

Far better to order them online.

Purchase Pick Sets online

Postby maximum_torque210 » 27 Feb 2005 12:32

Hello everyone. I am a newbie to your forum but I do want to let you know that Pick Sets can be purchased online from www.northerntool.com. They have one set of 18 pieces in a leather case and also a pocket pick which consist of a retractable pick and detatchable tensioner. I have both and am just now learning to use them. I must admit that this is kinda fun! I would like to say thanks to all of you who take the time to give us "newbies" the benifit of your knowledge. What a wicked little hobbie!

As for on line place to buy, do not forget about this sites sponser (lockpickshop.com) they will sell and ship to anyone. I have ordered several times from them and found them to be quite prompt. If you enter the code LP101 in on the order page you get a 10% discount. It really is quite easy and the stuff arrives quite quickly.
