I can't be sure, but the lock looks like it might be warded, and in that case some warded picks would be nice. Do you have the name of the lock? Padlock shims might also work.

... that looks pretty weird. I'm curious why only half of the keyway seems to be able to rotate.

I have never seen a lock like that, but it stands to reason it is either a warded type, or a lever type. I'd guess warded. The lower part of the keyway would be cut out that way to allow the full height of the key to pass through.
Just a guess though.

And then the key rotates around the round piece?
I guess so... seems a little contrived.

no one has seen this before?? I have seen tons of these mostly on junk stuff I think. Try a warded key or a hook.

Ah. No edit button!
Yes, the key goes in and turns with the center peice. the slot on the lock it self is to accomodate a tall key.

Since you only have one post it might be safe to say your not a picker. So in that case you may try calling a locksmith, or just cutting it off.

Especially if you've lost the key (and why would you ask if you hadn't?). You're obviously not going to want to use the lock again anyway, so just cut it off. It'll be a lot easier in the long run.

wow, yet another topic where a person has just added a post, not reading the rules or anything, odds are they wont come back either, going on past experience, anyway, about the lock, i have seen a few locks like this, i have one or two somewhere, from memory and a fair bit of guess work, i think they're quite old, no longer made, coming from Europe, UK or France i think, if i can find mine i will post a picture, i remember the key being weird though, it was a sort of j shape (straight, then an angled, curved bit), it was definatly warded because it didnt lift any levers (too small and not the right shape). i hope this helps a bit, i'll look for the lock now and see if i can get some pictures of it and its key on here to help!

golly gosh - you guys have never seen a keyway like that?
got one on my briefcase - it's either a warded lock or a lever lock of some kind - (perhaps a uk person can help out here) - my briefcase is a warded one.
I believe the rotating bit is called a curtain and is designed to inhibit picking.
but that's the limit of my knowledge on the subject.
Oh look! it's 2016!

aaaah, so thats a curtain! i've heard them spoken of in the euro forums, but never seen one or anything, i've typically heard of curtains being on lever locks, but judging by the key and lock i have (although it seems to have gone AWOL at the moment), the lock must be warded, not lever, simply by the way it looks! they appear to by low security and i have only ever seen them used on small things which it is assumed will not have anything that valuable inside. (i keep picturing one in my head but i just cant remember where, i think it may have been on a suitcase), anyway, you will probably need someone from the UK who knows a little more about them than i do!
