Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

hardest pin configuration?

Postby Guesss » 3 Mar 2005 2:43

i am not sure if this is under the right catigory but it seemed the most correct to me.

what is the hardest pin configurations that you have picked or think would be the hardest, I know using the right pick style helps a lot but i am curious as to what people think about pin configurations.

pin configurations

Postby raimundo » 3 Mar 2005 9:57

0 cut at the tip of the key, followed by the maximum allowable deep pin then 9 followed by maximum allowable short pin then 9 then the MAcs short again.at the front of the keyway. Always make the deepest pin very short, and make the pickshaft reach to get under the next pins, A 9 cut near or at the front of the keyway, that will always be overset by the pickshaft. and put spool drivers on.

ha ha well yes all i did realize this :)

But i guess i was more wondering more of the keys that you have found that are cut. Unless you found some of those . i guess i didn't think you could make keys with that drastic of cuts... but you are deffinately right that would make it really hard to pick, especailly with the spool in the front pin spot with a deep pin.

would it make it harder if you had more then one kind of security pin in there. Obviously the more security pins in the harder but having varing types would that be an advantage to having all one type?
