I'll get right on that, with my advanced lock disassembling skills. ;) I have no idea how to do such. If I were able to figure out how (I'm sure there's an tutorial around somewhere), could I do so without messing the pins up?

That lock is F'd up

Hahah. It's been here since we moved in, and probably years before that. At least 15 years, and it gets a lot of use. The marks are possibly latenight drunken fumblings with keys.

That looks like a very weak and low quality lock, and certainly one that has seen better days. You would probably do yourself a favor if you replaced all three locks with nice new, better quality ones, such as Schlages. Just a thought.

As an idea,

If you have numourus locks in your house that use the same key it could be that they are master keyed instead of keyed alike and you use master keys instead of the proper locks keys,

If thats the case it could be conceiveable that one of the pins is very very short and has managed to get rotated sideways fully or just enough to jam the lock,

Im sorry but im not reading 2 pages of double posts properly but is it only 1 or 2 pins that are solid? or is all the lock solid?

A GENTLE tapping with a soft mallet on the face of the lock may loosen the plug off,

As others have said, the best way could be to remove the lock and start stripping it down,

If my brother could pick it, I'm assuming such, yes.

I might be, but we're moving out soon. Won't be here for much over three more months. If I could just get this fixed, I could leave it to the buyers. Worse comes to worst I will do so, but I'd rather not.

well 2 things:

There are three locks in our house that use the same key, if I take this one apart to fix it and the pins don't go back the right way, I'm ultimately screwed, no? I'd have to get three locks re-done.

1. You could put it back together if you had all the pins, you would insert the key BEFORE the pins, and just drop the pins in the right slots so they all line up.... This is very easy.

2. A locksmith with re-pinning sets could replace that specific lock and key it to fit your key, you probably woudln't have to get all 3 re-done.
