some people prefer different picks though, im a newbie but i really dont like picking with a hook unless i have to, i much prefer to use a diamond or even an C rake, i just dont like how the hooks fit in the lock.
basically, what im trying to say is, its all down to preference, if you are getting your first set, why not get something like

or you could just buy the tension tools and a couple of different picks. its all entirely up to you, make your own set depending on what you want.
a cheap way to get picks is also to make your own, go to a mechanics or a scrap yard or something and get a few of the metal splines from wiper blades and make your own tools, this option isnt to everyones tastes, but many people enjoy making picks.
