lock orientation by country

Euro locks usually are built to be installed pins down, and US is pins up, but what about england, ireland, and does the corialis effect apply in australia  Which way are the locks mounted in your country usually, do they come in both orientations. Knowing this would help me understand some of the questions on this site, Also, when a keyway is sideways, like domIX or multilock, are the pins down in euro models? I suppose they would be. There is a distinct style to euro picking that involves puttin a finger on the interface between the plug and the cylinder to get tactile feedback, Would some of you guys post hear any further national differences, what side of the road do you drive on. :P

As a Froggie I'm on the right side of the pond !! ;-)

we drive to the right of the road of course ...

It was very difficult for me to drive in UK in particular at night (cause my car lights were oriented to light the road shoulder ... not the road !! )

MTL, DOM, etc etc and other european profile locks have there pins all oriented to the bottom of the door

when I was travelling in Canada ... for me it was very amazing to find some european locks fitted upside/down ( pins oriented up)

regards Jimmie

yes - we actually apply tension in the oposite direction to the way we want the lock to turn.

I don't know what the standard is, or if there is one, but it seems to be random... I've often seen doors where the deadbolt has pins on top and the key-in-knob has pins on bottom. often when there's KIK in an push down latch type handle the pins are on the side.

we drive on the left hand side of the road.

personally I have always put my ring finger of the hand holding the pick on the lock face to get better control (and hence have had to modify my style in order to use your picks raimundo ;)), but I've never actually tried putting it at the shear line though... must try that.
Oh look! it's 2016!
