Electric Pick Guns

Postby GrodyCody » 18 Dec 2003 13:58

Hey guys,

I have learned how to pick locks manually but i wanted to try an electric pick gun. Can you guys recomend any good ones?
I found this one and was wondering if it was worth buying ( its the silver one) - http://www.lockpicktools.com/pickguns.htm

Thanks

That electric pick gun is fine and i can recommend it from experience because i have it.

I´m able to open all my locks, even those ones having security pins, in just a few seconds.

I only would say that $127 is too much.

www.lockpicks.com has actually that pick gun in offer for $109.95.

http://www.lockpicks.com/product.asp?0=203&1=214&3=15

In lockpickshop.com is $149.95, so even with the 10% discount it will not be cheaper than $109.95.

I don´t want to make any critic or anything sounding like that, but lockpickshop.com is really expensive even with the 10% discount (imagine without it)

I recommend to order from www.lockpicks.com because apart they have better prices they will beat any price from other shops.

Regards.

Some people have said that the electric guns have a tendency to chew up locks, but I have no experience with this. Best of luck, and please give us all more info on this.

After an attemp to open a lock with an electric gun, bottom pins will have marks. From marks to chew up a lock there is a large path.

I´m not saying you can not chew up a lock using an electric gun, but in my humble opinion if that happens that would be more a fault of the lock (Varjeal would have to edit my opinion about what kind of lock would be it so better i don´t make it  ) than electric gun´s fault.

I´ve opened several times all my locks with electric and snap guns and they are still working fine.

Regards.

Well that is good to know. Im sure that we can all think of a brand of lock thats metal is so poor that even the key begins to wear it intensely. Have you had any problems with brass shavings in your locks? Any kind of spring damage/ loss of spring strength? Other than a speed increase is there much of a reason why an electric would be a better choice than a manual gun?

No problems with springs here.

Only that you could use the electric gun as toothbrush with some modding.

I will say that electric pick guns have the potential of damaging a lock more than any other type of commercial picking tool.

With the variable speed range that most have, an inexperienced user can potentially vibrate the brass or tin pin cover right off the lock! Of course, the lock will be open, but then you've got a mess on your hands.

I personally haven't had very good success with an electric pick gun, preferring instead a manual gun as I don't really want the pins smashing against the springs as much as even a low setting on an electric causes, not to mention the wear a "burst" performs on the bottom pins.

Just my 2 cents Canadian.

Btw, I HAVE seen locks where an electric has been used and the lock has been full of brass shavings because of improper use.
