Makin picks and the macgyver style

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Makin picks and the macgyver style

Postby Skiter » 25 Mar 2005 23:56

Hello, i'm new here and i'm loving it. This forum is great, you guys did an excellent job creating this forum.

Well, i got 2 questions. The first one is for who about that making picks video. I don't have that propane thing. Is it ok if i use my stove? Does it reach the same temperature as that thing he uses?
And how about that haxel blade. Is that how you write it? I'm not from America and i never read that word before. Can anyone help me? I don't think we have those down here in Brazil, at least not those made out of stailess steel and as thin as the ones he uses. I had the idea of using this kind of school ruler made of the same material.

My other question is about the "macgyver style picks" that are mentioned at the title of this forum. Does anybody have a video teaching how to make those out of safety pins and stuff? lol just kidding, but anyways, what's the best material and technique to make a tension wrench and a pick in the macgyver style?

Thanks
practice makes perfect

Skiter, hi!

Welcome to the forum. Always fun to see new ppl around.

Macgyver picks, my favourite! There is tons of threads on the use of alternative mats for picks, shims and torque wreches. Use a paperclip, bend the metal in a pair of glasses, shim the lock by cutting the aluminium into a shim or use the metal strap in a windshield wiper as a pick.

Read all threads you can find and use your imagination!

The word is hacksaw, and you should have them in Brazil. Just check your local hardware store. They're replacement blades for saws.

you can buy them online if you cant find them near you, also you can make them out of plumber's snake (really nice) or out of the metal tabs found on filing cabnets folders. also a propane torch should be found online for a cheap price.
