Yay! First lock picked :D

Nice. I'm having some problems with my front door if someone could help. Its a schlage lock. The most pins i've set is 3 pins. I tried for half an hour and still can't get it. I don't know if i am putting too much tension or...i don't know. Help or tips are welcomed.

Well, if you can't learn lockpicking in a half hour, I would say it's probably never going to happen. Just keep at it, try to avoid overtensioning. If you're not sure if you're using too much tension, you probably are. Make a point of invisioning what is going on inside the lock. It's as much mental as it is physical. Also, I would strongly advise that you get yourself some practice locks and refrain from picking your door locks. For one, as a new picker there is the risk that you will damage the lock. Secondly, you will likely find it easier to pick a lock in your hands than kneeling in front of your door holding your picks at an awkward angle.

Thanks for the help digital blue. Problem is that i'm low on $$$ and i'm young (wont' say my age) and i have no source of income. Maybe i'll get some locks for by bday. (imagine that, "Mom, for my birthday, can you buy me like 3 locks?")

josephhkim, try going to a local gym and asking the manager if he ever gets any padlocks that people abandon on lockers. Tell him you're doing a school project on physical security or something. That might get your some practice locks for free.

lol, maybe i'll try that. Can't think of any gyms, but theres always the yellow book.

josephhkim: you could also try a local locksmith, they may have something spare (then again they may also shoot you down in flames) also, check in any skips you see, they might have padlocks/doorlocks etc. Sometimes I find padlocks just abandond in the middle of the road (strangely I also find them randomly chained to things, looks like the owner of it lost the key and just decided to stick it _somewhere_)

also, what helped for me, is I got a chair and turned on my TV and didnt over think the lock
I found that it helped me because I wasnt trying to hard.

I got that problem when i first started out. When i would pick a lock it was easy but when i wanted to show someone i couldnt get it open i hate trying to hard.
