I personally got over the age issue by getting a checking account. With a checking account (which you can legally have an independant one at the age of 16 in the us) you get your debit card. The part I like is the fact that for so many years the internet's only way of verifying the age of 18 was the having of a credit card. Since you can only have a credit card at 18, if you have one, logic says you have to be 18. Good thing visa is the largest supplier of debit cards to banks.
Though there are ways around the issue of age, I would have to agree with everyone else though. If getting lock picks is too taboo for you to ask your parents, then don't get them... After all, they WILL find them eventually. Either when they're rummaging through your room, or when the principal calls them in because you were caught trying to get into someone's locker.
