just a thought, isnt using a straight screwdriver to push all the wafers down while turning the wrench the same as using a rake to scrub the wafers? all the wafers are pushed down and the torque will bind some wafers, then you just repeat until all the wafers bind.

Besides the GM Sidebar, your standard 8-10 wafer ignitions on other vehicles are quite difficult to pick as well.

i have been having trouble with a wafer lock - 5 wafers i believe. i am making my own picks and using a small slot screwdriver for torque. i am filing and manipulating a probe set:

i had to thin them down for them to fit in the small lock. but i have been having trouble getting these stupid little locks to open. it seems like my pick is long enough to reach all 5 wafers, it is a flat edge - i put pressure upwards, lifting all the wafers upwards, and torque with the screwdriver. it sure seems like all the wafers are in line, but it still won't open. am i doing something wrong? do i have to set and bind each wafer separately? can't i just lift all 5 wafers simultaneously? any recommendations on specific shaped picks to open a lock like this? it basically looks like this:

there is only so much time i can spend trying to pick these specific locks. i bought the above lock to practice on and i could open that one pretty easily by pushing all the wafers upwards simultaneously. it is a little bit bigger than the actual locks i want to pick, but it is the same kind. maybe i just need to keep practicing...

GM sidebar is also known as the briggs and stratton sidebar for GM unless I have been mislead long ago and never learned the truth. PickPick has reported that the BMW is not so secure, it seems to yield to some forcepicking with a split tensioner. Greenleaf and illionis Duo make some wafer locks that while pickable, are not the cheap little things that get scared when they hear a pick coming. Its just that the little cheap cam locks and other disc locks are so common that the whole type is assumed to be way to easy.
