Hey all,
Just picked my first lock open (And by picked, I mean actually picked pin by pin. I've raked open the lock quite a few times by now, but that doesn't really count to me. ). It's a practice lock I ordered with my lockpicks.
Man that was fun.

Way to go! Picking pin-by-pin is a lot harder than simply raking (especially on the easier practice locks). Have you gotten that you can pick it without looking at the cut-away section?

Hey
The first lock i ever picked was by raking but then i started pin by pin and yes the feeling is fun. Just wait if you ever make your own picks, nothing beats opening a lock with picks that you have made

Mine's cut away, but it doesn't have a little window to see the pins. I *thought* it did, but I wasn't paying that much attention when I ordered it, evidently.

-.-
What's the point of a cutaway that doesn't expose the shearline?

Seriously, I'm confused. The idea of a cutaway lock is that you can see the pins as they set. If you can't do that, what's the point? Is it a scam?
Does it just have some random metal removed?

I ordered it from LPS, so I don't think it's a scam. I *think* it was this that I ordered, but I'm not sure

Looks similar to that, anyways. *shrug*
Doesn't make a difference to me, I can pick it fine. Just took a little longer to learn
Meh

Thats pretty funny. It would appear from the pic that the lock is not really a cutaway at all... but the ad clearly says cutaway. Hmmm... maybe Red can clear this up. I'll send her a PM and ask that she visit this thread.

gwah.
Best guess is that the product's just poorly (maybe erroneously) named. The description seems to be correct, but seriously contradicts that name ("Affordable and effective, they are an excellent choice to supplement existing practice kits or in addition to cut-away cylinders." Gee...)

Yeah, they might want to rename it.
Meh. It worked fine for me, so I'm not complaining.
