bs sash locks?

Postby capt.dunc » 12 Apr 2005 7:41

i've got a client who wants to keep their original door fittings as are, and needs a new horizontal sash lock (6"). it's an internal door and the buildings security is pretty good, but with it being a computer room and packed to the ceiling with expensive goodies i'm loathe to fit a union 3 lever. anyone know of a bs rated horizontal sash lock?

Try:

Imperial G5012 - 5 lever, 151mmx88mm, 57mm backset, 70mm centre

Chubb 3J60 - 5 detainer, 165mmx98mm, 83mm backset, 150mm centre

Not BS, but better than a 3 lever.

I was going to suggest the 3J60 but if there was a 3 lever Union or similar in there then the keyway and handle backsets will be a problem if they are to keep the current furnishings... Haven't come across any BS horizontal locks as yet.

Ask them what they want. If it's an internal door and they're happy with a 3 lever then who are you to argue! The only pick that most thieves, after such equipment, would be using to get through the door anyway is probably one that comes mainly in size 10! But I see where you're coming from...

Another way to appease the insurance companies by meeting an equivelent to a bs lock rating if you cannot find one is to fit 6 locks to a door.

this could be for instance, 1 x 5 lever horizontal sashlock, 1 x yale pbs1 , 2 x star key bolts and 4 x star key bolts, this is just an example to get round a bs lock, this is what the upvc companies did to reach insurance approval.

if you fit a pbs1 , then this is a bs3621 rated lock, but better would be to fit 1 or 2 bs3621 deadlocks above and below for the increased security.

thanks guys, the client went for the three lever, who are we to argue. it's an internal door and the building is secure. union 3 lever not a perfect fit had to shift the handles and key holes about a half inch, don't know who did the original fit but there was a bit of slack around the lock, enough to get a finger in the morticed hole above and below the lock, as well as badly cut key holes. i don't know what the lock in there was, 4 lever, 2 thin and 2 fat, layed out as bolt, thin, fat, thin, fat, no spacers, closed gates no anti picks, collar ward, no curtain, blue hammerite case, any thoughts?
