You're not going to get much info about those locks easily, especially since you're a new member, and the way you asked about it suspicious. Judging from this and your other post, I think now is a great time to learn to search.

Why don't we go ahead and tell him how to pick a Medeco?! Aww, guys c'mon!

Well, even if he knew how, and he were stupid enough to attempt without having picked a Kwikset yet, there would be one less newb on the streets. I can't say it's a good sign when newbs walk in and immediately ask about something illegal, but it helps weed out the criminals and/or single them out for flaming.

This is the best kind of newb there is, because at least he gave us enough info to insure we wouldn't asnwer the quetion. :) Sorry brivera88, but you got a whole lot of reading to do here before you realize the error of your ways. Start with the FAQ section, read it ALL, then have a search for "vending machine" and see what you come up with. I'll even save you the time there. You'll find a whole lot of newbs being shot down for asking about breaking in to vending machines.

Cheers! :)

sorry about the post. i am seriously intrigued with lock picking, ever since i read the anarchist cookbook back when i wa sin 3rd grade. lock picking is hard for me, i am still new and have not bought/made picks yet. i am not a criminal, i am just curious. sorry for the stupid question though, i am not trying to sound like a newb but i am one. i am just a guy interested in lock picking. so sorry for the dumb question, i am not trying to make enemies here, i am only trying to make friends and gain knowledge.

brivera88: Well, I do commend you on the best "follow-up post to a dumb newb post" I've ever seen. :) Your second post presents a far better attitude and is way more likely to get you a good answer to a question.... but still not the vending machine question. ;) There are all sorts of locks to pick but they can all be devided into one of two groups. Those you are allowed to pick and those you aren't. This is a really easy distinction. You can pick any lock that you own, or that the legal owner has given you expressed permission to pick. Pretty simple, eh? For obvious reasons, that means that in almost every case vending machine locks fall into that other category that we don't discuss - locks that you should not be picking. Nobody on this site is going to condone illegal activity, nor aide in it. Judging by your second post I think you get that now, so welcome to the site! I do hope that you take the time to read through the FAQs and read important documents such as the MIT Guide to Lockpicking. Familiarize yourself with the search functions, and just consume as much info as you can. When you get up to speed, we'll be here. If you get really stumped along the way, we'll also be here for that, but I'll warn you that if you're asking a question that's been covered 100 times already, you'd best adorn yourself in your asbestos long johns. :) All in all, if you stick around long enough you'll find us a pretty good bunch.

In short, brivera, your particular question was sort of tantamount to going on a computer forum and asking how to hack into the Pentagon mainframe. Yes, it CAN be legitimate and useful information, either for an honest business or for simple intellectual interest, but the other possibility -- that you're collecting information to commit a crime -- is just too strong for us to give that kind of info to a total stranger.

There's no info to give, 95% of vending machines I see these days have medeco cam locks. These aren't even vulnerable to normal medeco picking. The rest are: Abloy, another lock where stories about successfully picking them rarely if ever have any evidence to support them. Mul-T-Lock's, mad skillz required. And every now and then you'll see a tubular. That doesn't even cover the newer ones that don't have any visible locks. In short, picking won't get you very far with vending machines.

Around here most of them still seem to be tubulars with a big Masterlock (you know, the brushed steel ones with round bodies?) slapped on top.

unless you own a vending machine for some reason, don't worry about picking vending machine locks. and they have a variety of different kinds of locks on them, ace 2, or abloy... of course, there is no standard lock for them and can contain almost any type of such as a medeco or something similar.

each type of lock i just mentioned is picked in a completely different way and requires alot of skill.

i even once saw a vending machine with a transponder type key to stop the alarm going off when it was unlocked!!

i really wouldnt like to pick that! and yes, they do all have nasty locks on, either great big obvious things, small, tight key-wayed high security things, or more commonly, both. the only way tog et into a vending machine is to become a professional locksmith and invest thousands in training and tools.

if you have a genuine interest in lock picking, which it sounds like you do, you'll know to start on something like a master padlock or kwikset lock and where to get picks or make them since it tells you in the FAQ's.

if you get stuck on something odds are fairly high you can find it on here by searching, if you cant find it, make a post and you will get some help :)

welcome to the site, i hope you enjoy your new hobby and good luck! :D

brivera88,

It's been a couple of weeks since we got to 'jump' a newbie. Please... spend some time in the Rules/FAQ section (and the MIT Guide) and if you haven't been 'lurking' here for very long... you may consider reading some of the older threads where we 'encourage' others to stay focused on the hobby and not the criminal aspects of locks.

We slowly warm up to be a pretty good bunch to hang with.... but as you can see, we don't want this turned into a 'black hat' board. Anything that remotely smells of illegal activity will get a harsh reaction.

Welcome!
