Help needed please, customer authorization/waiver

the problem with id ect. is if the person is a crook they may have stole the wallet or purse and then had the front to got to the owners house and called you. there realy is no sure fire way to tell ( i have knocked a neibuors house before to ask ) a disclaimer is also not a fool proof way either so you just have to trust your own instinct sometimes, ask questions like whats in the cuboard in the hall (you have looed through the letter box and knocked it to see if there is any one in and to see if rex the boxer dog isnt going to take a chunk out of you
) but if you are not happy then a call to the local police is nesasary. if you called them to every opening they will soon get pissed off with you.

Regarding the i.d, luckily we are now in the days of the photo driving licences etc so it should be easier, although there are good copies around. I say roll on national photo i.d cards, because only those who have something to hide won't want them. If you are an upstanding law abiding citizen then you have nothing to hide and won't mind carrying one, this should make our job a bit easier.
Regarding calling the police and p***ing them off, they would much rether be called and prevent a crime than deal with the aftermath of the crime with all the investigations and time that is involved with it. Worse than that for the poor old locky who lets the criminal in, the interegation, the question of their working practices and their name being linked with the event when all of someones goodies have been pinched.
The amount of times you should need to call the police each year should be very few if any. You should be able to tell from the body language, attitude and the way the customer is conducting themselves under questioning from the locksmith about the property. Very few criminals can or will act as a normal person would in this situation, ther are very few who have the front and can stay as cool as a cucumber in these situations.

i agree , most police officers would rather prevent a crime, and wont be peeved at you being carefull if you have genuine concerns.

I concur. I know a few bobbies and the amount of paperwork involved when pinching a scally is ridiculous. I'm sure many officers would be relieved to check out and rule-out someone in a few minutes, as opposed to being reduced to form-filling for the next hour with the prospect of never catching the thieving tw*t whose got more front than Woolworths!

i was just saying that if you had 3-4 calls aday and phoned the police every time then they are bound to get alittle stressed about you so you need to make the desion yourself and only phone them if it feels dodgy. and i wish everyone had photo drivers id but its a fact that a lot of people still dont have them and only have there old ones. if there was a fool proof way i would be the first one in the queue. i recon we should all be chiped at birth with one of those chips they put in dogs then you could scan aperson and get thier details but there is no way this is going to happen (human rights ect). but for the humble lockie then it comes down to what id the customer can produce and your 'gut' feeling.
