You know, it's funny. My jackknife didn't come with a hot wife.

Neither did Witehat's. The lucky bugger got her before the lock picks.

I am surprised he gets anything done with a woman like her around.

its usually advised to get a normal pickset first. most poeple say jack knives hinder your progress since its hard to get feedback.

Very cool story I had a chuckle and liked the mini-review aswell.

This was the first lockpick I saw other than the ones in the ultimate spy book that I got years and years ago...

I have always kind of wanted one and maybe by the time I get half way decent at picking I will have overcome my fear of ordering stuff from overseas and buy one.

(these comments must be prefaced by the clear understanding I do NOT own one of these)
For all the inherant problems; such as the lack of feedback, the fact the you have an assortment of picks and a wrench in a compact unit that is extremely portable and does not have the danger of losing individual picks (how many times have you forgotten to put one of those picks back in its case and just put it in your pocket) means that whilst this unit is not the be all and end all of picks it is a very viable option, particularly for people who do not pick everyday but would like to have picks on them should the need arise.

When you wiggle the pick at all inside a lock (using a raking or picking motion, for example), the picks place stress at the hinge point which, after a short while, push the screw downwards and it will unscrew just a tiny bit. With the screw out a little ways, the pick you're trying to use becomes loose.
Also, I've had problems with the screw getting loose while the keychain is in my pocket (with my keys). In fact, I recently lost the screw this way and I'm wishing there were a way to buy a replacement screw without creating an entire order for just that one thing. Sooner or later I'll need some more picks anyway, right??

aaah, ok then, i've never had one to actually play with so i wasnt sure how it worked, i thought surely if the screw came loose you could tighten it up again and not need to buy a whole new screw.

cheers kayvon!

Postby scampdog » 13 Mar 2006 22:14

when i first got my southord jacknife set,i wasn't very impressed,so i decided to alter it(cant help tinkering). i added a rake ,a deeper diamond and a broken key extracter(all homemades),i also cut the hook down to a more workeable size

jacknife pick

Postby scampdog » 13 Mar 2006 22:52

p.s with regards to the screw loosening,i use a very small rubber Oring, you can get them in any decent hardware shop. failing that, gun shops sell them as breach seals for old airguns.

scamp beat me to it.. instead of an o-ring.. i was oging to suggest "teflon tape" or blue something that keeps the screw in TIGHt.. it takes some force to get out, but won't come out by itself.

Hey, thanks a lot for that review. I'm considering a combo set from SouthOrd and wasn't to keen on that Jackknife at first, but am now much more inclined to get it especially after seeing how really customizable it is. This will be a fun project. :)

I am going to buy a the jackknofe myself, i already have my pick gum 20 piece soulthord, quickpick, and about 20 homades replicating and altering demensions of standard soulthords, i am not hopeing to be inpressed but what the heck it looks neet and it looks a little handy i might have to go for the fiberglassed handle though heard it was actually really strong and save a few bucks.
