Pick wont fit!

Postby Me_The_Great » 28 Dec 2003 13:39

Hi there!

I have been trying to pick the front door (Yale) but whenever it opens, it seems like luck. I did it yesterday morning in under 15 seconds, but haven't been able to do it scince

The problem i am not having, is that my pick's wont fit in the lock! I dont know why, and i dont think the lock has gotten smaller  The problem is that i cant get them to the back pins, they are getting stopped by the side ward (guessing terminology, i mean that gove along the side of the key  ) They seem to only get right to the back when i take the tension wrench out, put the pic all the way in (above the side ward) then move the whole pic down, then put the wrench back in.

I cant see what i am doing different to last time.

Any tips?

Thanks!

Which yale? The one with the very squiggly keyway?

If so that's one of the hardest keyways to move a pick in. You probably need a smaller hook.

http://www.crypto.com/papers/notes/picking/index.html talks about this keyway.

Maybe you want to start with an easier one?

Good luck!

Check to see that you havent twisted your pick tip as well. Thin picks are always good. Peterson makes a very very thin hook that may help you.
