About making picks...... Search for Raimundo's guide. He makes simply lovely picks with a few simple (and inexpensive) hand tools. IE A good chainsaw sharpening file (I got mine for 3$US.... and it works very well) and some sandpaper and a chopstick. You want to find either street sweeper bristles or windshield wiper inserts as your material.

About your Kwikset troubles, you may have a mushroom pin, but thats doubtful-- as Kwikset has recently begun to include spool pins from the factory, in positions 2 and 4, if at all if I remember correctly. You may have a mushroom if the lock was rekeyed- then all bets are off.

I say mushroom but i really mean some secrurity pin, and yes it does rest in the second pin slot, thanks for the raimons tip ill check it out, while Im here anyone know about magnums, im curious to whether they are high security or cheap or somewhere in between.

Nope its not like that everywhere, i am only 13 and we can pick locks here in PA, but if you get caugt its off to the big house
I am waiting for someone who will never come.

Just one of the few 13yr old lockpickers
