Question - what do i do to find some lock packages

Postby fr33m1nd » 25 Apr 2005 0:16

I've been trying to pose the question of whether or not anyone has a variety of used locks? so that I could buy some for practice. Anyone know of a good place online to go looking for such a thing? My posts on the forum keep getting removed can't use the buy/sell forum - general talk, or general questions. Having a really really hard time anyone got any ideas for this? I'd appreciate some help thanks all

Hey,

There are plenty of places to find this on lp101.com, but I'll tell you a few things if it'll prevent you from posting this thread a fourth time. First of all, finding used lock packages online is difficult. Other than the one and only Varjeal (An admin on this site) who offered them in the buy-sell-trade forum, I haven't seen any used lock packages online. You could try shopping around at your local locksmith - be polite and ask them if they have any locks they were discarding that they are willing to sell for cheap. If that doesn't work, just buy new locks. They're not expensive if you're starting out, they should be less than $10 a piece. Heck, you probably won't even care about them 2 months from now. Best of luck.

I've said this before, but if you are looking for practice locks you might try heading to you local gyms and pools. Talk to the manager and find out what they do when people abandon padlocks on lockers. (Some people seem to think that if they leave a padlock locked on their locker it will be there when they come back and they'll always have "their" locker - of course this is against the policy of most gyms and pools). Usually, they just cut the shackle off the lock and discard them. If you friendly up to the manager (or maybe maintenance person) you can sometimes find yourself with a whole bunch of practice locks. For your purposes, it doesn't matter if the shackles are cut.

The other thing to try (and I don't know that I've said this before) is to get in touch with door/window installers. Often times they will replace doors for a customer and replace the locks at the same time. They often end up throwing out the old locks because they are too old to resell. If you offer the guy a buck or two per lock he'll probably throw 'em in a box for you and you'll have more locks than you know what to do with before too long.

Hope this helps. And listen, if you're having your posts deleted I can assure you there is a reason. Have a read through the FAQ section. In particular, read the rules thread.

Happy picking!
