Effective substitutes?

On lockpicks.com i found a replacement set of picks for quickpick and jacknife pics. They look about like regular picks, but cost very little. Could i buy these instead of a regular pickset?

They'll have no handle. Unless you're going to comfortable with that, no.

I believe his point is there's no grip, there's no comfortable hold on that. Those "handles" appear to be a piece of metal that locks into the pen pick, you'll be gripping just that, which might not be a huge problem, but after a couple minutes it'll start to get annoying. if you want to do this stuff wearing gloves all the time. It'll look like if you're using your hands (for feeling and such) you're hands will get a bit raw after a little while.

How ever I'm just learning about this stuff so I may be wrong.

That "handle" is somewhere around 0.5 to 1 inches. Standard picks have handles that are several inches long.

Flatten out the barrel of a bic biro, push the pick into it, and the plastic will spring back to tighten on the pick, making a longer handle. throw away the rest of the ball point before flattening.

Even more simple:
Just take a popsicle stick with some tape, and tape your popsicle stick on the handle.

instead of buying a factory pickset
invest in a grinder

no laws against owning a grinder....
