i'm still alive, i'm just having problems with public access computers. i'll have rescan my line drawings in order to get them stored at photobucket, i'll sit and type out the text with own two fingers over the next couple of days in a seperate thread on warded locks and post a link in this thread. at this rate i'll be antique, and mentally fit for locking up.

Great thread Capt. I think itd be ok to wrap the thread up now nobody has come up with any solutions as yet and it has been up for a while.Unless anyone has any objections that is.

In answer to this thread.

The method that I use [I carry a supply of materials for exactly this sort of thing] is to cut a peice of mild steel plate, approx 3mil thick into something which resembles a golf club with a square end.

To this square end I stick on a piece of aluminium foil, now I can impression the sides of the keyway and cut the square end to size.

Then I can impression the warding - if it's complex warding I will cut away the blade to facilitate the passing of the wards.

If it's a simple set of wardings, I will just bend a wire to pass the warding.
I find this much easier and quicker than using a large malleable key to impression.

[This thread gave me an idea for a tool which some of you have seen.]
