Hi! & lock picking problem

Postby keith_aquino » 28 Apr 2005 9:26

Hi! I'm a newbie and it's my first time going to this site. Right now, I'm very interested in lock picking. I made a pick with a paper clip and a tension wrench with the nail file of a nail cutter. I've read "How lock picking works" in www.howstuffworks.com
I'm intending to buy a kwikset lock tomorrow. I just want to know if a paper clip and a nail file is enough. I also want to thank my door for locking me out; without it, I would probably not have been interested in this. Hope you reply!

You can get by with a paperclip and a nail file in a pinch (as a matter of fact those are exactly the tools I started with) but if your interest continues for anything more than about 20 minutes you'll want some better tools in short order. You can either order tools or try your hand at making your own. There is tons of info on this site on both.

Have a look around and enjoy! Happy picking!

Thanks for the reply. I'm in the Philippines, more specifically in Cebu. I'm not comfortable with buying from the internet. Does anyone know where or how to find a lockpicking shop?

There are not typically many places you can buy tools from other than online. The few places that do will typically charge considerably too much. You might consider this site's sponsor http://www.lockpickshop.com. Many users, myself included, have ordered successfully from this site.

If you are determinted to find a store carrying tools, you might look to "Spy Shop" type places. I don't know if you have them in the Phillipines. Expect to pay too much though.

Otherwise, consider making your own tools. There is a video by PYRO1234321 that you will find if you look around that details how to go about doing just that.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I did not expect this place to be quite homey. Thanks for that!

Been to the Phillipines and wouldn't expect to find a shop supplying picks. You have however already shown you can improvise, so why not use this forum and make some of your own. If and when you do post them on the site as I for one would love to see them.

I will start making my own picks. When I am done, I shall show my masterpieces (did I just say masterpieces?). Ok, wish me luck! :D

Did this really come from someone with 36 posts? Really? Reeeaally?
P1mpF0x, have a search on the forum for that question. It has been answered in the FAQ section as well as answered countless times. Several per week, as a matter of fact.
