hi im new and im pretty interested in lockpicking. I was wondering if I could get any tips on getting a set of lock picks or making making lock picks?

Lockpicks are fairly easy to construct out of popsickle sticks, you just have to sand htem down a bit so they fit and then cut out notches like you see in a key. That will make an excellent pick. If not, you can always try buying from "Spy Shops," they often sell at the best prices.

can I make one out of a dentist tool would that be hard?

Dentist tools may work, but you would have to file them down so much that they may weaken. To solve the weakness problem, I suggest that you use wood glue (it has certain properties that allow it to adhere to metal easier) to coat the entire pick to strengthen it. Best of luck.

Would wood glue really help that much? I've worked with it recently, although not much, and it doesn't seem strong enough to make it worth the risk of it flaking off in a lock.

It's alright if some of it flakes off in the lock, you just have to re-apply it after. If you don't want to put wood glue on it though, try boiling some water and pouring some into a cup big enough for the pick to set in, and put the pick in the cup of boiling water and then put it in the freezer. The sudden change from boiling to freezing (you have to wait for the water to freeze), will strengthen the pick.

thevoid, i suggest you read the faq's, the mit guide and all that sort of stuff, then search for things, because all this has been discussed before about making picks.

stick, i think mcm may be winding thevoid up because its obvious he hasnt searched...

You won't be able to buy any on ebay, it's against the ebay rules. Like I said before, all joking aside, look for spy shops in the town that you live in. They often have great prices. Another good material for pick making is CD's, for computers. They might require some sanding, but they hold their strength well.

one last thing. My dad has this wierd little thing about his gun safe. and i wanna open it just to mess with him. Can you pick those?

lol, sorry mcm, its funny to laugh at noobs but if its gonna wind up in a dead lock...lol

anyway, you'd be suprised how easily locks open, if you take anything that'll fit in a key hole, stick it in a turn it, the lock will just magicvally pop open!

if you give them a really good glare or mean look as well, some will open :lol:
