Lab Mini-Dur-X Pin Kits

I'm thinking of getting one of the Lab Mini-Dur-X Pin Kits instead of a full .003 kit since I don't know how long it will be before I do any more rekeying. How many locks can you expect to be able to rekey with one of these?

The locks I'm looking to rekey are 5-pin Yale mortise cylinder locks. They will be part of a master key system as well. I know the number will vary. I'm just looking for a safe ballpark figure.

25 each of 10 bottom pins = 250 total pins /5 pins per cylinder = 50 cylinders maximum per kit.

Less if you masterkey all 5 chambers - then you're looking at closer to 40.

Theoretically, if you use all the pins totally equally.

Fewer if you don't.

Realistically, it's closer to half that because on a two-step masterkey system you'll only be using the even numbered master wafers, of which there are four - 25 each, 100 total, 5 per cylinder...

So, uh, when you rekey locks, do you just throw away the pins you replace? I keep the odd lengths in a pill bottle, they come in handy if you work without any pin kit, just a big vitamin bottle full of mixed parts. To use them, I pour the whole thing out on a plastic tray.
