When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Ok, I'm looking to buy a tubular pick, but I really don't want to spend $90 on one. I was wondering if anyone knew where there was a cheaper one. Also, which is more common on a tubular lock, 7-pin or 8-pin.

Hey Mac-somechacterican'tfind-da.
There is some info around here on making your own tubular pick. Just out of curiousity, why the interest in tubular locks?

You can copy and paste a symbol into the search box at the top to look one up.
And to say something on topic, what DB said.

thanks for the feedback...i'll search for how to make a homemade tubular pick. and as for my interest it's really just my ego. the guy at my school who refills the coke machines seemed to think that tubular locks were an unpickable lock, which is why they are used, so i want to prove him wrong. don't worry, i'm not planning on walking up to the coke machine at my school and picking it. i'll wait until he is there and ask his permission before i prove him wrong.

Since the guy who fills the machine doesn't own it, it's better left un-touched. The last thing you need is to be accused of stealing from evey machine which has a low payout, whether it's due to being tipped, or not...
If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!

I agree. No good is gonna come from making people aware that you can pick the lock, assuming you are able to. I'd say vending machines in general are better left alone.

A friend of mine was smacking on the vending machines tubular lock once and it opened. Any reason why? Or was it just a mircale? And no, we didn't take anything . Before I could tell him not to push the lock back in he shut it.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but those locks are kinda hard to pick. Especially if its one of your first tubular lock.
We never support picking locks you dont own, and since niether you or your friend owns lock, i think you should leave it alone.

P1mpF0x, that sounds pritty much like a once-in-lifetime thing to me. I dont know about the pin configuration in that particular tub lock, but he must have use the exact force to knock back the driver pins. That is the only explanation i can come up with

I've seen this before. Sometimes the vendor will go through the motions of locking down the machine, screwing it in and pushing the lock/handle into the machine and it doesn't quite catch for whatever reason, but stays in what appears to be a locked position. The first person who comes by and gets screwed by the vending machine for whatever reason, gets P.O'd and cranks the machine with a foot or fist or head . Suddenly as if by magic, the lock/handle pops open. It appears as if the Gods have smiled upon you. Realizing that you could steal all the goods/merchandise in the machine, your conscience suddenly chimes in and tell you to lock the machine up properly. You now walk away knowing that someday, your reward will be ten fold for doing the right thing that day.
Thou shalt not flame.

Very nice Wanderer. Your post above, should be used as a vetting question for the noobs registering to be members. Sort of like a "What would you do in this situation?" This would cut down on the "Erm, I'm kinda new and wondered how I can rob the Coke machine at my school?"
If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!

Haha, I guess it's a nice way to pick a lock. I mean if someone walks by and your pounding on it trying to get it open you can just say that it took your money Even though I'll probaly never see it happen again.

I personally have never seen a tubular pick cheaper than a hundred bucks anywhere. Even at flea markets. There is an awesome pick available out there. I think its peterson picks that makes it. But it is around the $300 range. Anyone can open a tubular lock with it. Its so easy. The cheapest tubular disposable pick is a bic pen. Anyone seen that video of that guy opening a bike lock in like 5 seconds with a bic pen? Unreal.

I only support the robbing of pepsi machines
If it's not yours, leave it alone. Just remember that.
