the pins in the back of master combo locks

i was looking through my drawer when i notice i had a master combination padlock and i noticed that it had like a mini pin tumbler on the back. I thought to myself WHOA whats that for? so i tried picking it thought all the pins were set but i didnt see anything happen what exactly is that little lock for and can you pick it?

I believe, am slightly uncertain, that it's used so you can bypass the combination. IE: Someone issues a bunch of locks and has them all keyed the same, schools and such.

I also have one, picked it up at a yard sale. Have picked it, but to be honest, I can't recall if it opened the padlock. I believe so, but am not sure. It was a pain to pick, since at the time I didn't have any undersized tools.

Real easy to pick. Shove a small half diamond in here, and lift up at the end. Turn CC with medium torque, it'll open right up.

if a half dimond wont fit a safty pin works good
