Canada stores

Postby First picker » 13 Dec 2003 1:36

I live in Alberta and I am 13 years old. I have always been interested in lock picking but can never find stores. I was wondering, what are some canadian stores for lock picks (prefferebly near Edmonton or online) or if i could use dental picks for lock picks. Thanx. :)

www.southord.com

www.lockpicktools.com

just search on google for picking tools and you'll find a lot of sites, but SouthOrd is the best. They will ship to Canada.

If you are interested in becoming a Locksmith (which is realy the only reason you would needs picks ....right?) stop in at Edmonton Lock & Safe and ask them to set you in the right direction. They should be quite helpful if you ask nicely.

Securityman,

I think you might be a little out of place, with an attitude like that. This is a forum primarily aimed at hobbyist lockpickers. While we appreciate your experience and expertise, the vast majority of us have no aspirations toward being a professional locksmith.

I hope you stick around and offer your input anyway, but please be aware: I, for example, pick locks because I want to know how to pick locks, not because I'll ever be a locksmith.

spider,

In his defence, as it might have came out wrong. He might have been suggesting that the poster uses "I am interested in becoming a locksmith" as an excuse to obtain what he wants. Ie the pick set. And who knows if hte poster enjoys it enough one day he will. I did jump as well at this post but I personally see the post for what it is, an answer to a question and in this case i think its a good one.

Marso,

He only has four posts, at present. If you read the rest of them, I think you'll read his statement the same way I did.

I hope you're right.

Now I am starting to understand this site. Besides the obvious loathing of the legitamate profession of Locksmithing, you guys do your best to discourage anyone who is in the trade from participating in this form because then your blatant lack of knowledge regarding the trade would show through.

I am participating in this form because I sincerely want to help others understand security hardware and its' applications. If I can encourage others who have a genuine interest in locks to take up the trade (instead of just pretending to be a "lock picker") then I have done a good deed for someone.

Tell me, why else would someone want to spend so much time posting erroneous information to this site if they fear the "real" information offered by a professional?

take up the trade (instead of just pretending to be a "lock picker")

Nice to see that you have a sense of humor lol... alot of people visit this forum (it's forum btw not form) whether they be complete beginners, professionals, or ...and they're all treated equally ie: everyone has the right to give their 2 cents worth, but at the end of the day the only currency of any value in LP101 is respect!
Now you can't surely expect all the members to be totally conversant with all aspects of lockpicking terminology when the average age of members is thirteen years, on top of that there are alot of foriegn members and english is not their mother tounge, I'm one I suppose as I live in europe and LP101 is hosted in the USA (but the lockpicking world championships are hosted in europe not in the usa...), so there's always going to be made up words and some very bad guesstimates & waffle, but it does no real harm.
"real" information offered by a professional

I'm a professional too!... A professional lockpicker, and I have no desires to become a locksmith, just as the likes of Pablo Picasso had no desires of becoming a "Paint & Decorator"!...
This site is for people that have an interest in lockpicking, whether it be as a hobby, a sport (as in europe) or profession...there are a number of members here that have begun training/are interested in training as locksmiths, and your expertise to them alone is worth a small fortune, in the meantime if you need any pointers in regards to lockpicking fire away, always more than happy to give my free advice...
Support your local locksmith -- lose a key. Support your local institutional locksmith -- lose a master key.

For The Record:

I'm done answering this guy. He obviously doesn't need my input anyway, I'm just a silly little lockpicker, and it's giving me a headache and lessening my enjoyment of this site.

I'm going to go back to learning what I can and helping when I'm able. Politicking on a forum this small is both pointless and ludicrous.

Can we all just get along, or at least pretend to? It seems like quite a shame to begin to ruin what we have going. Do a quick search for alt.locksmithing archives, and you will see that a similar thing began to happen a long time ago, and it hasnt turned out the best for the hobbyist/ sport picker.

from the 13 yr olds Mom

Postby First picker » 31 Dec 2003 17:48

I dread continuing this thread, but feel I should reply on behalf of my son the originator of the question regarding "stores".
My son is only interested in picking because he is an amateur magician (and very good at it for his age) he would like to incorporate escape routines using real locks instead of trick locks in his shows. He didn't claim to want to become a locksmith or any other reason for the use of picks in his first post, except as an interest of his. I hope securityman realizes there are other legitimate reasons for learning simple techniques and tools available, in the context I have provided him, for the next time he chooses to jump on a 13 year old and assume the kid is up to no good. Not all teens are bad, this kid is an A+ student with aspirations of becoming a mortician, something everyone needs one day.
