Just another 'show off my newbie picks' thread

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Sorry, I don't want to put up my email, there are bots that crawl the web getting email addresses, and then the spam starts....

I used my Father’s bench grinder when I visited my parents on vacation. I was intending to use a dremel too now that I am back home. It should allow me to create finer heads on the picks. After the basic grinding I used hand files to make minor adjustments, then increasingly fine grades of sandpaper to smooth them off. But I’m sure there are better people on here than me to discuss this. If you do a forum search and a bit of reading you’ll surely find the answers you seek.

Thanks for your generous complements Geek142, and everyone else. Its a great encouragement.

And HeadhunterCEO, what did you mean by prison shanks? I did some searching, but only came up with makeshift knives used in prison?

That's correct. They're often made from sharpened bits of metal or whatever can be found, and sometimes wrapped with cord (or, again, whatever) for a handle.

Just to comment on the legal side of things(as talked about on the first page... along with hiding picks in you underware), I have been searched by police (not for picking though) and they looked at my set of about 20 picks, they asked what they where for, so I told them it was just a hobbie and they just put them back in my bag, didn't get mentioned when I had to go down to the station the next day with my dad.

Don't worry, I didn't 'shank' anyone, and it wasn't for picking either.

But yeah, your picks look good, try to use a needle file if you want to make good snakes.

Dan.
If it doesn't seem to make sence, take a minuite to look at who said it... do you still want to know?
