Brattonsound Gun safe locks

Has anyone any experience of getting into these? From what I can gather they are a 7 lever lock without a curtain. Are they based on a more common lock? A drill point would be useful, as I have a customer who needs to gain access for the police!

First... every law enforcement agency in the country either employs or retains lock specialists. If the police want it open... they have the resources to get it open.

Second... drill points and bypass techniques are not discussed here in the open forums.

But... if you'd like to discuss techniques for picking a 7 lever lock... we'd certainly love to entertain that with you.

Cheers

Should have made my post clearer - the police check gun cabinets in private homes periodically. My customer has lost the key to the top lock, so he cannot physically show the police his gun, which might mean he would lose his gun licence (which we also need in the UK)

Take your point about drill points - but as a newbie to this forum I cannot get into the elite post room!

Unfortunately it cant be discussed here. If you are uncomfortable working on this safe, refer a colleague who is more of a box man.

Yeah...sorry bikermarl... I failed to realize you had a UK location. This side of the ocean has slightly different rules when it comes to police & firearms.

Unfortunately though... the result is the same. You are probably going to have to refer this one out. Sorry.

Bratton Engineering gun safes come with two keys for each lock. Losing both of them is unfortunate, and I have to wonder why they were not split into two pairs and kept safe?

Anyway, there are no external indications of the code of the key, for security. You will have fun even trying to pick it, and if you drill it, it will NOT pass the police security check. The hassle and mess involved in drilling is silly, since you will have to unbolt the safe, and buy a new one for £80-£200+ depending on model and size.

Further, if it is a firearm, the police might pull his ticket as he is obviously not using the gun, and they can (and do) revoke for that.

You need someone who can pick a lock for this one. If it costs your "client" £100 for the job, it will still be a saving in both time and hassle.

And, as everyone else has said, drill points for a popular brand of gun safe being given on an open forum? I think not!

This problem seems to crop up from time to time with people owning shotguns maintaining their liscence because it is harder to dispose of their firearms with the newer legslations even if they are not using it regularly.

Firearms and shotguns are covered by very different legislation.

However, you can sell either to a dealer in five minutes without issue, as long as you have a ticket covering it. Or you can take it to a police station, they will give you a reciept and that's that.

If you don't have one, you can simply phone the police station and ask if you can bring it in for surrender, and they will say yes, and you just take it in and hand it over the counter to them. (You might well get arrested for this, though. Anything to improve the "detection rate"! See coppersblog.)

Failing that, wipe off your prints, run it through lengthways with a grinder or saw, and throw it in the canal. Don't do this if it is on your ticket or there will be far more trouble!

Thanks for all the feedback. I am reluctant to drill the lock because I am pretty certain it would invalidate the cabinet as a suitable place to store the guns. As one of you pointed out, each lock has two keys so why my customer didn't split them to two different key rings is a bit of a mystery. More worrying he thinks one of his kids lost the keys!! Just as well there are two locks!
