First Pick

I found my master lock from last year. I want to learn how to pick it for two reasons: To learn something new, and to find my combination. I searced all over the internet, they all say about old master combination locks, but this one is only a year old. Don't tell me how to do it, I like puzzles just give me a hint. Thank you very much, serial number starts with 91 if that helps... Remember, a HINT not walkthrough!

sorry dont know alot about combo locks. i have seen like you. old ones have a glitch but i have never heard anything about the new ones. may want to look up some information on shim. However you will not accomplish either of the two things that you wanted too

Search around, you'll find several pictures of dismantled combo locks. Look at those, think about the instructions Master gives you for opening them normally, and you should be able to piece together how they work and how to crack them open.

Just a note on terminology, opening combination locks is not really called picking, it's called manipulation.

In this case, I don't think there is reliable proof that the combination of Master combo locks can be figured out in a general way for any random sample of the lock. Some people have had success with particular locks that they own, but the methods are not guaranteed to work on all locks.

Feel free to experiment with it and see what you can find, but you could be trying for a long time.

Or you could use a dremel, slice off the back panel, and whamo! Instant cut-away padlock. You'll learn something new AND find your combination! Erm... You didn't want to use that lock again, did you?

Masters are easier then dudleys. You have less possible combinations, so you could try all of them and see if they work. Me and Orange are going to make a list of all possible combinations...wish us luck.

I think there are approximately 1000 possible combinations with a Master combo lock. I don't know how many are actually used in manufacturing, and how they choose them.

You're in for a world of frustration pal. I would suggest an article by Matt Blaze on manipulation that can be found a crypto.com - you'll be told how to do it, but that won't make it easy with all the flase gates on those things. If you do manage to reinvent the wheel and open it using an original method, let us know ASAP.

I really don't think that the method that Matt Blaze teaches for Group 2 locks can be adequately applied to a master combo lock. I just can't see it.

Please merge this post and the other one since it dosen't have an edit button. I looked at howstuffworks.com, If I find the first number then i can pick it because I can feel when they hit the other tumblers and once I find the I have them aligned, I can pull it out. Am I on the right track here?

I'm, still a little lost, nobody knows how t pick a new master lock? By the way, I looked at crypto.com and couldn't find. I really want to figure this out this is interesting.. Thank you very much for trying though! I wanna get this thing open soon.

1. You don't really "pick" a combination lock. You can manipulate it or bypass it in some other way.

2. I'm not even sure that a newer master lock can practically be manipulated, as the tolerances are terrible and it's full of false gates.

3. These can be bypassed with shims very easily, so stick a shim in it, pat yourself on the back, and move on to actual lockpicking.
