I was defeated by a falcon 7 pin...

Postby PickCop » 19 May 2005 7:11

So I'm at work the other night, checking business doors to make sure they're secure, and I run across one that isn't. After clearing the business, I start feeling around the lock while we're waiting on the owner, and realize that this lock seems to be really well built. I make several attempts at the lock with my rake, but alas, I was defeated. The only thing I can say in my favor is that the lock was set back enough that I was having a hard time using my wrench. Anybody have any tips/ info on Falcons?

Not so much a tip on the falcon, but if you were having trouble getting to the lock with your wrench you might want to get (make?) one of the tulip wrenches. Sometimes they're a must have.

wrench

if the plug turns, but hard, use a small screwdriver, as the weight of the door may be resting on the bolt.
Tensor fit is very important, My recent playing with the shrouded brinks padlock, I found that only one particular tensor would work, it is just the usual blade, but wider and thinner than the others, and it may have a different springyness to it but that is not what matters in this picking.
because tensors can easily become bound in the bottom of the keyway, I have been thinking for some time of putting some sort of extra piece in there to help the tensor fit, such as a small round wire or nail that will fill the space that allows the tensor to turn to far before gripping. Every blade tensor that fits in the bottom of the lock will drag against the immobile cylinder wall somewhat, You can see this when you get a lock that was very hard until you use some sort of tensor that does not even touch the cylinder wall and suddenly a lock that was difficult becomes easy. :?

That is one advantage of putting the torky on the top of the keyway if it is possible. It won't interfere with the cylinder but it is harder to rake in that position.

was this an sfic falcon? those are harder and need a special torque wrench to do to the control line.
