Hi, I'm a complete beginner to lockpicking. I've barely even thought about it until today. I feel really stupid about this, but I've lost the key to the club on my car :roll: , and I'm too afraid to break my steering wheel with the method of ripping the club off of the wheel. Can anyone give me a detailed explanation of how to pick the lock on the club? I've sat in my car all morning with nail filers, paperclips, safety pins, you name it, yet the one thing I lack is technique. Can anyone help me?

You being a newbie at picking, you probably won't be able to pick The Club. You lack the proper tools and knowledge that can only be gained through days, weeks, months and years of working with locks. It would pay just to get a lockie to do it for you. If you must persue it yourself, SEARCH this site, but I can tell you that you will most likely not get it with paperclips and files. Sorry I can't provide you with more information.

It's a pretty ordinary lock, and if you can figure out basic picking you can probably manage it -- it's not exactly the world's best.

Or you could just try breaking it or something. Ways to kick the Club's ass are many and varied.

I just picked my first club lock the other day. It was the first time I'd ever tried mind you, 'cause I don't own a club, but I was in a friends car and he was driving, so I was picking. All I had on me were raimundos famous picks (stashed neatly away in a small inside pocket of my jacket at all times now). Although these were not exactly the best tool for that particular job, I managed it in about 4 or 5 minutes. I woulda loved a two pronged tensionner at that moment in time. :)

Anyway, I was mildly jazzed about it at the time. :P

how often do you use double pronged tension wrenches? I have been looking at pictures of them and I am thinking of making myself one but I don't know if I have access to any locks that I would need to use it on yet. So far, just my normal torque wrench has done fine.

It seems as if templates are not being traded as freely any more since they were being sold on ebay, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Does anybody have a template for a double prong wrench that has worked well for them?

I saw DB's post about picking a Club while driving around in his buddies car. I remembered I had one from my last vehicle that doesn't fit the truck. I dragged it out from it's hiding place to see if I could open it. Sure enough, a minute or so later it was open. It looks like basic wafer lock inside on the one I have. I used the bogota first and it opened. Then I jiggled a "snowman" in there and it popped open. I hope the new ones aren't like that too. If they are then they are a joke. Why cut the steering wheel, when you can pick it with a nail file? This lock was no worse to open than my filing cabinet. It's an old version though. Hopefully they're better now.

Oh, I know there are hundreds of pictures of pics. I just haven't seen many pictures, other than the pretty distant pictures on corporate websites, of the double prong tensioners. I was just wondering how useful DB thought they were.

Well, my sum total experience with double pronged tensioners are with ones I've made myself. I'm aching to try the falle-safe adjustable double pronged tensioners but, alas, it appears it will be some time before I see a set of those in my hands. :( Anyway, they certainly have their moments, and this would have been one of them. I wasn't partiularily comfortable here using just my bagota picks in this instance, but they did the job none the less. Make do with whatcha got I suppose.

Getting the club off your car:

I used to live in philadephia, and got my car stolen twice, once with a club on it. It turns out what most criminals do is cut the steering wheel. I hope this info isn't construed the wrong way, but if you really need to get the club off your car, it's much easier than attacking the club itself.

i saw my friends car the other day, it had be hit by a van and written off, but the club thing had shot from under the passenger seat and hit the footwell and shattered, this was the one with like a grey "arm" and a yellow bit to clamp to the steering wheel, i dont know if this is exactly the same thing as you have, but it looks like if you hit it with a hammer, you can get it to break fairly easily.

of you could have some fun with a drill or an angle grinder trying to cut a part of it off to get into it.
