Hey everyone. This is another one of those Picked My First Lock posts, but it isn't really my first lock.
I have been reading these forums for roughly three weeks. Got my lockpicks about 2 days before finding this place. My first lock with these picks was a filing cabinet lock. Super easy I know, but the rush of excitment when I got it to turn was amazing. I'm now hooked. I went out and bought a $3 lock from a convenience store just to have something to play with. Picked it successfully after about 30 minutes. I continued to keep picking this cheaply made lock for a few days until I had it figured out and could pop it in about 10 seconds or less. So, in order to keep learning I went to the local walmart and bought a new deadbolt and a Brinks padlock. The cool thing about the Brinks lock is that it came with a Key Decoder as well as a little bag of pins. This lock can be rekeyed to work with a regular house key. Pretty cool I thought. Once you get to where you can pick it predictably, change out the pins to work with a different key and go to town all over again. Great fun.
The deadbolt took a little longer to deal with. I didn't have it mounted on a door so that I could play with it without having to hold a big chunk of wood in my lap or whatever. I got a buddy of mine to time me on picking it the other night - 8 Seconds. Just like a bull ride.
I also have a Contractor Grade Master Padlock, It's super hard, but I have beaten it once. It took way more tension that I thought it would. But I haven't really messed with it too much in the last few days because of work taking all of my time.
I just wanted to say that I am so enjoying this new found hobby, and that there's a lot of folks on this forum that have been super helpful to me without even knowing it.
Props to all of you!
