Ok, I’ve spent way too much time trying to find this information myself here in the forums so now I’m forced to ask about it. I need to find out what type of lock this is, and I’ll have to describe it to you. They can be made by Master as well as off brands. They are usually cheap, and to the average person look easy to open. They usually have a flat key with square notches on both sides of the key and the end view can be straight or kind of wavy. Although you can look into the keyway, there are no visible pins and poking around with a pick I can’t feel anything that could be a pin. I know that 99% of you know exactly what kind of lock I’m talking about but I just don’t know what it’s called so I can’t get any information on how to pick it. As I said in my introduction, I’m the manager of a storage facility and need to figure out how to open these or else cut them off and miss out on a practice lock. :( Sorry for such a basic question.

You have a warded padlock. There are picks to open these. You can make your own from some 21 gague or so steel and pictures/patterns posted here. These locks are usually quite inexpensive, and can be cut off quite easily. Even if you need to cut the shackle now you still have a useable practice lock, but honestly, Master warded padlocks require almost no practice at all. Simply insert a key, attempt to turn. If the lock doesnt open, try another key. Repeat.

Ahhh, ok cool, thanks very very much for the info. I should be able to make some picks for them then, as I have an abundance of excellent pick making material. In fact I just opened a lock this morning with one of my picks and it made my day :D Now that I know what the darn thing's called I should be able to find more info on it. Thanks again.
