Embarrassing Question

Hey guys,

Just a small question which I don't want you guys to laugh at. Reading another thread about the guy needing help with picking locks, and he can pick cheap ones.

Now my confession, you guys know me, I can pick an Abus 55/45 (standard level 4). But one thing I constantly can't do is pick those friggin diary locks...How is it done?

Please don't laugh at me...

Firstly, you need to look straight into the keyway of the lock and give it a stern look! :evil:

This had better be a joke. Who's diary are you trying to read, and could it be that you're just feeling guilty about picking somebody's diary and reading it? What do you hope to gain from reading a little girl's diary, amd is there some other way you could attain these goals? Perhaps you should just talk to the little girl and listen to what she has to say.

no, I'm serious. I've tried using my picks, a percision screw-driver, nothing I seem to do works, but it's probally because I don't know where to aim. This is not a joke, I can pick locks people will use on their house, but not a lock that you could throw away, and is used for a diary. I would never dream of reading a little girl's diary, well... :oops:

ummm....

Talking to this little girl won;t work, shes not that little. But seriously, how are these locks opened? I can't get it open for the lights of me...

These locks are extremily high-security: rotating telescopic laser-cut tublers with digital 512 bit encrypted challenge-response system from a computer chip on the key, as well as biometric breath reading and voice recognition systems built into the lock. On top of that there is a trained cyborg fly that, when awakened by the use of the improper key/picks (your lucky you havn't woken him yet), will fly out and bore a 1 cm hole into your head where it will lay its' eggs at the center of your brain. About 4 hours from the time the eggs are layed, they will hatch and the new cyborg flys will eat your brain out as a source of food until they are strong enough to fly out. By this time you are dead.

OR...you could just use a stiff piece of wire bent into an "L" shape.....not as cool...but effective...

I'm assuming you're talking about those really little padlocks that go through to metal holes secured to each side of the diary. Is it a pin tmbler padlock or a warded lever lock? The former has a key that looks like a normal key but is really small. The latter has a key that looks like....

The former (pin tumbler) can be picked using a 2.5mm headed tension wrench and simply jiggling while turning. The latter (warded lever) can be picked with, as Varjeal said a stiff piece of wire bent into a "L" shape.

half diamond or bent paper clip would probably work, the half diamond works on a lot of the master lock companies really tiny cheapo padlocks, it finds the spring and presses it back.

Ok, I got around the pins, the encrpytion, the voice and breath, but how you get around the cyborg fly?

Is there somthing specific I'm aiming for, or am I just putting it in and jiggling around?

ITs warden I think.

The fly is the hardest part... I find if you play "twinkle twinkle little star" on a flute to wake it up, it lulls it into a state of hypnosis, at which point you can open the lock if you've already bypassed the other security mechanisms.

It's been so long, this really brings me back...to like 3rd. grade!

If it's the type i'm thinking of, I think I recall using the hook-shaped can opener tool on cheap, imitation swiss army knives (this type not usually found on real swiss army knives) or, of course, on a can opener.

I would use it to sort of "scoop" around the rim of the inside of the lock, sliding the [ward?] around 360 or 180 degrees until it releases the latch (attached to a cardboard strap holding the book shut).

*sigh* I suppose. Alright, like Varjeal said, you can use a peice of wire bent in the shape of an L, or I find that the deep hook works very well. Or, if the keyway is VERY small, a shallow hook. These locks will *usually* only have one lever that has to be engaged. They are usually located as far back the keyway as you can get. Put the pick in, and rotate it clockwise. If you hit something hard, it is most likely a ward, so move your pick a little closer to the opening of the keyway, and repeat the rotation. Once you hit the "lever" that is keeping the lock locked, it will be "springy" and will have a little bit of give to it, rather than the solid feeling of hitting a ward.

If you repeat this process enough times so that the pick is coming out of the keyway, insert the pick as far as it will go, and start over again.

I'm not question your picking skills, but if you want more information about warded locks (which would help you picture what's going with this one), capt.dunc wrote up a GREAT post: viewtopic.php?t=7620.

Ok, I don't have a flute, but will a saxophone work? I'm still trying, but I can't seem to get it to work. I think the screws are getting in the way. Which way is the ward facing, and how far up exactly? which way against the opening of the shackle?
