My homemade pick

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

well i feel kind of embaressed to post these now considering how good geeks are but oh well...

this was the first time i'd touched a dremel in my life, so its the first time i've really made any picks as well. they didnt turn out too badly in my opinion considering i didnt use a template either.

http://www.freewebs.com/masterintraining/mypicks.htm

(they are the ones on the bottom of the page)

what do you all think? they still need some sandpaper to finish them off so they're good for picking :)

Hmm, they are pretty good for your first try, Have ago with junior hacksaw blades, and try save for a grinder, its easier and faster with one. There better then my first homemade ones :D

its ok getting a grinder but i have nowhere to put it, i've got the dremel set up in my bed room at the moment! lol

i need to go shopping so i can get some stuff to make handles with and some hacksaw blades to make picks with handles.

i'll see when i get a free moment to go shopping for it, fingers crossed it will be soon!!

I dont have a setup either, what i do is i keep my grinder in things in my room, and when i use them i set them up on an outside table, i use and extension cord to get the power points.

i'll have to look into it, my mums been really mardy just recently so we'll see how things go.

how do you attach it to the table? if it like a really heavy table with a vice on it or?...

i suppose i wouldnt have to worry about quencing the metal with the weather here, the rain will keep it cool!

My bench grinder sits on... well... my bench, but it's not secured down to anything. They're pretty heavy and I don't think it's apt to run away.

You can't beat a decent garage setup :D My bench grinder is kinda light so I'm going to have to bolt it into the workbench... it keeps slipping :x

*A quick note to all the guys grinding or using a dremel in your bedrooms*

Keep on Mum's good side by using the vacuum cleaner hose whilst grinding or using the dremel. Since most of the materials that picks are made from are ferrous, you don't want the dust to be flying around the room and getting trodden deep into the carpet pile....only to resurface as a nice rusty stain, after knocking that drink over.

Use the vac on the whole floor once you have finished. Laying out a drop-cloth before starting is even better.

*looks at the cold bottle of water sitting on the floor with water condensing and running down the side.......*

*wanders off to find something to dry it with and a vaccuum cleaner!*

thanks for the tip mick ;) i've got a creamy coloured carpet, it would show up seriously badly!

 I once had a nice green stain from working with copper...didn't go down well at all. It took a while to appear to it's full glory and was still there when the carpet was ripped up & thrown out.
