Kwikset Ultramax Securityâ„¢

New Kwikset® Deadbolts Pass Stringent Tests for Kicking Attacks, Lock-Picking, Prying, Pulling, and Cut-Through Assaults
Lake Forest, CA – September 2002 – Kwikset now offers Grade 1 deadbolt security in the new Kwikset UltraMax Security™ line of door hardware designed, produced, and distributed for the residential construction and residential home markets.

Grade 1 deadbolts provide superior resistance against forcible entry. Extensive testing for strength and durability of Grade 1 deadbolts include kicking, lock-picking, and attacks with sledgehammers and wrenches.

Homeowners are advised to make an extra set of door keys when they secure their homes with Kwikset UltraMax Security deadbolt because they are highly resistant to violation.

“It takes advanced engineering and exceptional strength for a residential product to withstand the demanding tests required of high-security commercial Grade 1 deadbolts,” says Jimmy Pendley, director of Kwikset product management. “Kwikset’s new product innovation and design provides maximum residential security with refined style to help keep the home and family safe.”

Kwikset offers UltraMax Security line deadbolts in single (Model 980) and double cylinder (Model 985) and on the 800 Series of three handlesets, which feature a titanium-alloy throwbolt core, a 6-pin cylinder with anti-pick pins, and an Ultra-Strike Door Jamb Braceâ„¢ designed to prevent forcible entry.

Deadbolt security ratings are classified by ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and by the BHMA (Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association) for operational strength, cylinder performance, security and finish.

Kwikset has been a leader in the lockset industry for more than 50 years. The company manufactures and markets a complete line of door hardware, including handlesets, knobs, levers, deadbolts, and pocket door hardware for the residential and light commercial markets, under the Kwikset UltraMax Security™, Kwikset Maximum Security™, Kwikset Security™, and Society Brass Collection® brands.

Kwikset is part of The Black & Decker Corporation’s Hardware & Home Improvement Group, headquartered in Lake Forest, California.

I have had success raking and picking the Kwikpick, er, Kwikset Ultramax.
In fact I take one around when doing lock picking demonstrations.

P.S. I personally recommend Schlage as a reasonably-priced, decent home door lock.

Grade 1 deadbolt security

UNLESS B&D clearly states that they have achieved an ANSI SECURITY Grade 1 level, they are speaking through their hat.

Standard grade one commercial locks are NOT required to have anti-pick devices. All that grade basical means is that it has been tested and approved for higher quality parts, fire resistance, and properties that will protect it against physical attack NOT including lockpicking which is part of UL437 standards.

kwikset names

Postby lockedin » 14 Jun 2005 6:49

Kwikset makes me laugh-- they keep giving their locks fancier sounding names. The names are like 10 steps ahead of the locks. :D It's like everquest nerds with names like "norad the destroyer" or "bob the mutilator"
