Best lock doesn't open

Postby Wade » 8 Jun 2005 0:52

i picked a Best lock on a door that has no other locks, the plug rotated about 70 degrees clockwise then stopped, not unlocking the door. Why won't it open?

This late at night, I can only come up with a few suggestions.

1.) Use a screwdriver or something to put more force on it, see if it stopped because it required more force to turn and engage the latch.

2.) Security pins. 70 degree is a lot, though, probably too much for it to be security pins.

3.) I'm pretty sure the plug would rotate 15 degrees if you had picked the control shear line, but try pulling it out anyways.

if its is sticking badly and is actually holding a door shut, it could be that the door or lock were installed badly and there is pressure on the block from the frame, try moving the door into a few different positions and seeing if it gets any easier to turn the lock futher, i.e. lift the door up a bit/ pull it to you/ push it away/ maybe even push down, but remember, te door handle itself may not be that strong, so dont press too hard on it in case it snaps!

as stick said, it could be the control shear line you picked, there could just be some kind of release mechanism, like the tip of the key or something like that to release it.

someone who knows about best locks would be the most useful person to you, but this is something to try out until they reply ;)

i hope this helps, good luck.

sounds like your pins have dropped into the loading holes, see if you can push the pins up again, it will only need the back of a pick and they can all be lifted at once,

I once lived somewhere which had Best cores in rather annoying deadbolts... they turned the counterintuitive way. So turning towards the frame unlocked, and towards the hinges locked. You could turn the correct key about 60 degrees or so while it was locked in the "wrong" direction.
